The Joy of Aging
Throughout my life, I have always known that there were a number of important components to living an active, healthy, happy and enriched life.
One of them was to try not to lose my sense of self and well-being while attending to the needs of my family and husband. My good health became a priority throughout my busy life. This is not a selfish view but one which made me a happier mother and wife.
I took time to fit in such activities as walking, biking, aerobics, yoga, tennis and coaching my childrens’ soccer team. I usually felt better after completing my physical workouts and with my head cleared, I thought through issues that were bothering me and just felt better. The additional benefit of maintaining an active physical regimen was that I kept my weight down and I really liked that.
I sought out other women like me who liked to be active and found terrific friendships which have endured to this day. I just adore my female friends. There is nothing like it. They form an emotional network that I cherish.
At my current age of 77, I am still able to play golf twice a week, walk a few miles in a park or swim laps.
I have come to the conclusion that while 77 is my actual age, I feel 10 years younger. I am flexible and energetic which is what I have tried to attain throughout my life.
You don’t have to be a great athlete, just find that activity you like and go with it. Start by walking 30 minutes a day and you are on your way.
